The Center for Addiction and Pregnancy (CAP) at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center provides quality care to a neglected and stigmatized group of patients in a friendly, welcoming environment. This nationally recognized facility cares for patients referred from alcohol and drug treatment programs, OB/GYN clinics and child protective services, as well as by word of mouth. Nurses provide substance-abuse treatment, high-risk OB/GYN care, 24-hour domiciliary nursing care, family planning and pediatric care. The wide array of services provided makes CAP one of the best places for nurses to learn about addictions and counseling. Addiction can be a frustrating disease, and when combined with pregnancy, it becomes even more so. The interdisciplinary approach of CAP promotes cohesion among our staff without sacrificing autonomy or individuality and provides our nurses with unique opportunities and stimulating challenges. |
