Psychiatric and substance abuse nursing at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center offers a collaborative approach to clinical excellence and research-based practice. Our nurses treat patients with a variety of needs and provide them with unique and challenging opportunities.

Johns Hopkins Bayview’s voluntary acute psychiatric unit treats patients suffering from major depression, bipolarism, schizophrenia, adjustment disorder, dementia and personality disorders. Our chemical dependency unit treats patients referred from community addiction programs, the emergency department and local physicians.
  

Orientation and Continuing Education

Orientation consists of six to 12 weeks of individualized, unit-specific training that provides nurses the opportunity to establish their clinical competence. Many internal and external continuing education programs are available to enhance clinical practice and provide staff development support.
