Nurses at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center’s ambulatory surgery unit provide pre-, intra- and post-operative care to same-day adult and pediatric surgery patients. They enjoy the opportunity to participate in a range of services including cardiac procedures, orthopedics, urology, GYN, ENT and others.

   Patient population: surgical post-operative patients, Phase II
   recovery, outpatient cardiac procedures, preoperative assessment

   Number of beds: 21

   Nurse/patient ratio: 1:3 or 1:4

   Rotation/shifts: no rotation, 8-hour average shift length, no on-call

   Orientation: 6 weeks, or as needed based on experience
