Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center’s department of surgical nursing is staffed by dedicated professionals committed to quality care, patient education and customer satisfaction. Our surgical nurses provide a continuum of care in a variety of surgical settings, including inpatient units, operating rooms, ambulatory surgical units and critical care units, among others. Orientation and Continuing Education Our surgical nurses participate in 12 weeks of unit-specific, individualized orientation for surgical critical care areas (SICU, SIMC, BICU and NSCCU), or eight to 12 weeks of individualized orientation for non-critical care units (neuroscience, general surgery and PACU). Six-month operating room internships are also available, featuring classroom instruction and skill development. Surgical nurses also have the opportunity to participate in many internal and external continuing education programs. Nursing Practice Surgical nurses enjoy flexible, self-scheduled (with the exception of OR) 12-hour shifts. |
