Nurses at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center’s cardiac intensive care unit (CICU) are part of a world-renowned team providing the highest quality cardiovascular care and research. They provide an array of services including cardiac catheterization, primary angioplasty, echocardiography, electrophysiology, stress testing and cardiac rehabilitation.

   Patient population: cardiac adult, pulmonary overflow

   Number of beds: 12

   Nurse/patient ratio: 1:2

   Rotation/shifts: 80-20%, or straight night shift, average 12-hour 
   shift length, no on-call

   Orientation: 12-16 weeks, every orientee has a preceptor
