Johns Hopkins Bayview Care Center Awarded Accreditation for Stroke Rehab Program

The Terrace Rehabilitation Unit at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Care Center has received the highest level of accreditation for its stroke rehabilitation program from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). This is the fifth consecutive year the unit has been granted a three-year accreditation and the first year it has received a specialty certification in stroke care.

To receive this accreditation, a hospital or rehabilitation facility must have comprehensive programs and services for all phases of stroke rehabilitation, with an emphasis on treatment, patient education and stroke prevention. The facility must undergo an extensive peer-review process, including an on-site visit by a team of surveyors.

The Terrace Rehabilitation Unit's stroke specialty program provides services that focus on prevention, minimizing impairment and reducing activity limitations of individuals who have suffered a stroke. In addition, a multidisciplinary team works with patients and their caregivers to develop and personalize a comprehensive treatment plan.

Says Jack Rund, PT, CSCS, manager of rehabilitation services at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Care Center, "We are pleased and honored to receive certification in stroke care. This three-year accreditation recognizes the team's dedication to restoring the quality of life of patients."

Adds Lisa Filbert, RN, MS, NHA, administrator of the Care Center, "Receiving CARF accreditation complements the excellent care provided to stroke patients throughout Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, from acute care to post-acute rehabilitation."

The Terrace Rehabilitation Unit is a 26-bed unit that provides comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation to patients ages 18 and older from Baltimore and surrounding Maryland counties. In addition to the CARF accreditation, the unit also is accredited by The Joint Commission.
