The staff of the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center’s respiratory therapy department works in a step-down intensive care unit, weaning patients off mechanical ventilation. The weaning protocol followed has been recognized by medical journals as one of the most effective programs available. Staff enjoy a reasonable patient workload that provides the opportunity to evaluate and get to know their patients. Respiratory therapists also maintain a close working relationship with the medical staff, and often attend bedside pulmonary rounds to discuss care directly with physicians. |
