Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center has a long, distinguished history of service and medical excellence. Founded in 1773 as an almshouse for the poor, Johns Hopkins Bayview is now one of five member institutions in the Johns Hopkins Health System. After its inception, it evolved into an asylum and, eventually, into a municipal hospital. In 1984, the city of Baltimore transferred ownership of the hospital to the Johns Hopkins Health System. The Medical Center offers a diverse range of services, and is home to a trauma center, a neonatal intensive care unit and a nationally renowned geriatrics center. Johns Hopkins Bayview is also home to the Johns Hopkins Burn Center, the only burn trauma and surgical facility in the region. Johns Hopkins Bayview is located in southeast Baltimore and is easily accessible from I-95 and I-895. |
